The project is a brick house built in the 1970s with a wooden sloping roof structure, which is a non-reservation area of Nanjing Republican Historical Reserve.
As a "school district house" with more than 50 years of history, the designer stripped the space of its original traces, restored the most authentic state, respected the architecture, preserved the texture, and enhanced the sense of space atmosphere through "weak design". As an important medium for the family to welcome a better life, the focus of the design is on the relationship between people and space. By adding partial compartments with the advantage of double-sloped roofs, we break the closure of individual spaces, reorganize the space, expand the functional areas, tailor the whole and individual living areas for the family of three, solve the original structural limitations of open and closed, and reshape the scene and function of the home.
The first floor is the home of the family, with a central axis dividing the two large spaces on the left and right. On the left is the open dining and kitchen space, which is interconnected with the living room, where the family can be seen playing at any time. On the right side is the integrated resting space belonging exclusively to Mama San San and Papa Mao Mao. The second floor is a place for baby JiuJiu to grow up. There is a swing in the living room, on which JiuJiu will grow up rocking.
Inside, the south-facing space is designed to provide an excellent view of the outside landscape.
The designer left doorways of different sizes in the common area, these "channels" amplify the visual and auditory senses between the family members, no matter where you are, I can always see you in another space.
