Award Introduction

The Golden Pin Design Award encompasses categories including product, communication, spatial, and integration design. Each year, we strive to uncover exceptional works that enrich daily lives, the environment, and society through innovative designs.

Following thorough evaluation by expert panels in the preliminary and secondary selection phase, winning entries earn the privilege to use the Golden Pin Mark, affirming their excellence in design. Among them, only a select few will distinguish themselves in the final selection to attain the highest accolade, namely the Best Design of the Year.

Winners are granted the right to use the Golden Pin Mark, which can be utilized for product packaging, sales platforms, various advertisements, or social media to highlight the award-winning achievement of the product or work.

During the grand award ceremony, the winner of the Best Design of the Year is ceremoniously announced, marking a moment of triumph for the designer. The Design Night event on that evening also provides an opportunity for professionals in the global design and creative industries to network and exchange ideas.

Inclusion on Official Website

Winning entries will be displayed on the official Golden Pin Design Award website along with their descriptions as we as pertinent information about designers, companies, and more, allowing exceptional designs to gain greater visibility and recognition.

Best Design of the Year Special Publication

Entries honored with the Best Design of the Year will be prominently featured in a dedicated publication with specially allocated pages.

Annual Exhibition

Winning entries will have the opportunity to be chosen for display at the annual “Golden Pin Design Award Exhibition” of that year, allowing them to share their creative essence with both design professionals and the public.

Business Opportunities

Award-winning products will have the opportunity to be showcased in the “Design Pin” for promotion and sales, available through online and physical store channels where award-winning designs from the Golden Pin Design Award and other international accolades are featured and available for purchase. This not only enhances brand image but also creates more business opportunities.

Additionally, the Golden Pin Design Award collaborates with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), the organizer of the Good Design Award, to establish a dedicated Golden Pin section at the Good Design Store Tokyo by NOHARA. Winning products from previous years will have the chance to be showcased here, further expanding opportunities for international market penetration and global exposure.

Each year, the Golden Pin Design Award collaborates with numerous prominent Taiwanese and international media outlets as official media partners. Through coverage of award-winning works and interviews with designers, these media partners play a vital role in promoting outstanding designs.



Design Exchange

The Golden Pin Design Award organizes a myriad of design exchange activities every year, among them the Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon. We invites juries and award-winning designers to delve into contemporary design trends and collectively explore future directions. Such endeavors foster the development and innovation of both the design industry and cultures.

Since 2015, the Golden Pin Salon has spanned over 20 cities across Asia, including Taipei, Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It has showcased the works of nearly a hundred designers and creative professionals from various fields, drawing thousands of design enthusiasts and garnering widespread acclaim.

Qualifications

Design entry must be already commercialized on the market. The vendor applicant must be a business entity or design team.

Selection Procedure

Preliminary Selection
Entries are selected by the jury to advance into the Secondary Selection based on the information presented in the online registration page.

Secondary Selection
Based on physical works that advanced from the preliminary stage, Secondary Selection winners will receive a certificate, and the right to use the official Golden Pin Design Award ‘Design Mark’ logo. Secondary Selection winners advance into the Final Selection to compete for the Best of Golden Pin Design Award.

Final Selection
Based on physical works that advanced from the secondary stage, a shortlist of Best of Golden Pin Design Award finalists and winners are selected. The winners of the Best of Golden Pin Design Award will be announced at the award ceremony, and they will also receive a certificate, trophy, and the right to use the Golden Pin Design Award ‘Best Design’ logo.

※ The Golden Pin Design Award Special Annual Award is awarded to entries that use design to solve trending problems. All entries are subject to a jury review, after which the winners will also receive a certificate, trophy, and the right to use the Golden Pin Design Award ‘Special Award’ logo.

Important Notes

A. Entry Registation
  1. Commercially-oriented design that has been produced in collaboration between schools and enterprises must be registered on behalf of the enterprise.
  2. Former Golden Pin Design Award winning designs cannot be registered to participate again.
  3. If the ownership of an entry does not belong to a single entity, the applying company is required to acquire authorization from all relevant entities and to ensure the accuracy of the information presented. If any discrepancy in said information is found, the applying entity shall bear full responsibility and waive all qualifications, and the organizer and executive organizer reserve the right to cancel the entry and any prizes awarded to the applying entity.
  4. If the required fees (g. registration fee) are not received in full by the organizer, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the entry and/or any prizes awarded to the applicant.
  5. Once the registration process is completed (including the payment of registration fee), the organizer cannot refund the received fee.
  6. The organizer and executive organizer reserve the right to use or modify entry information, descriptions, photographs, and videos provided by the applicant during registration for promotional purposes.
  7. Entrants must ensure the accuracy of the information presented for the submitted entries. If a third party makes a claim against an entry, the entrant is required to personally resolve the issue with all due speed.
  8. Entries shall pass the required safety inspection and may be disqualified from the selection in the case of violations or safety incidents. The entrant shall not receive a refund of their registration fee.
  9. The organizer and executive organizer may collect the entrants’ personal information for the purpose of design promotion and the operation of this award and competition. Entry registration is accepted by the organizer and executive organizer as consent to the collection, processing, and use of the applicant’s personal information within the necessary scope of purpose mentioned above.
  10. The organizer and executive organizer may disqualify entries that are found to not meet the criteria for eligibility.
  11. Entrants must respect the selection results given by the organizer and executive organizer and may not raise any objections on the matter.

 

B. Submission and Collection of Entries 
  1. Design entries must adhere to the selection process guidelines devised by the organizer and executive organizer. During the selection process, it is not necessary for entrants or their representatives to present the design entries in person. Participants will be reminded of relevant details one-day prior to the selection process.
  2. All the design entries must be submitted before the official deadline at each stage of the competition; if the delivery of the design entry is not completed within the time specified by the organizer and executive organizer, it shall be deemed disqualified.
  3. Applicants participating in the secondary selection and final selection process will be solely responsible for any costs incurred in the transportation of their design entry (including import and export duties, insurance premiums, food inspections fees, etc.) and any required documentation. The organizer will not provide advance payment for deliveries (including import and export duties, insurance premiums, and food inspection fees, etc.).
  4. Entrants are liable for any damages to their entries and should pack carefully for transport and arrange for insurance coverage. The organizer and executive organizer shall not be liable for any damages to or loss of entries during the selection or exhibition.
  5. The organizer and executive organizer retain the right to dispose of entries that remain uncollected after the due date; the responsible entrants are liable for any charges incurred.

 

C. Award Issuance
  1. The name of the entries, companies, and designers shown on the certificates and trophies are as provided by entrants in the registration system and may not be changed. If an entrant wishes to change any of the names, they shall be liable for any charges incurred in the production of the revised certificate and trophy.
  2. Entrants whose entries are selected to receive the right to use the official Golden Pin Design Award ‘Design Mark’ logo must agree to the stipulated terms of use. (The organizer and executive organizer reserve the right to preserve, change, revoke, or modify the details of the terms and are not required to notify entrants of such changes)
  3. If any winning design is accused of and verified as being in violation of the provisions of the selection process, of plagiarizing other works, or of providing misleading representations of fact, eligibility for the Golden Pin Design Award will be revoked and any certificates or awards already conferred will be withdrawn by Taiwan Design Research Institute. If the aforementioned circumstances cause a third party to make claims against the organizer or executive organizer, the recipient of the award shall immediately resolve the issue in person, pay all relevant litigation, lawyer, and other fees incurred, and may not request a refund of their registration fee. If the issue causes direct or indirect damage (including but not limited to reputational damage) to the organizer or executive organizer, the recipient of the award shall also be unconditionally liable for compensation, and the organizer and executive organizer may also separately seek punitive damages and indemnity amounting to three times the administrative cost of the awards from the recipient of the award.
  4. Any dispute arising in relation to the registration, selection process, use, withdrawal of a ‘Design Mark’ or ‘Best Design’, may be settled through mediation or civil or administrative proceedings with the court of first instance located in Taipei.
  5. If any consumer disputes arise, or accidents occur related to winning design entries, the manufacturer of the design entry will assume full responsibility to resolve all subsequent problems arising therefrom.

 

D. Miscellaneous
  1. If there are any changes to the contact information provided by an award applicant at the time of registration, then it is the responsibility of the applicant to inform the organizer of the change and to provide updated contact information. The organizer is not responsible for any missed communications related to the Golden Pin Design Award where a change in applicant contact information has not been reported after the time of registration.
  2. The organizer or the executive organizer reserves the right to amend any or all parts of this document at any time.

Q&A

Entries are accepted for commercially available products or designs, as well as completed and operational spatial or integrated design works. The vendor applicant must be a business entity or design team.

There is no limit to the number of entries allowed. A product can also be submitted for consideration under multiple categories.

E.g. Product A may be submitted as an entry in both the Product Design and Communication Design categories. However, two separate and complete entries must be created for each category and two entry fees paid.

Yes, but only if the products have been commercially launched before December 31st of the same year.

The Golden Pin Design Award selects products that have entered mass production and/or are available on the market, whereas the Golden Pin Concept Design Award selects works in the conceptual stage and not yet mass-produced or launched on the market.

The Golden Pin Design Award invites both international and domestic design experts to serve as jurors. We also regularly arrange overseas exhibitions for our winning entries. Therefore, the accuracy of the entries’ English descriptions is very important. Please check that the Chinese and English descriptions match and are both correct to ensure a smooth selection process.

The 1800-character entry detail serves as part of the review materials for the jury; the 500-characterentry detail is used in public media coverage of the Golden Pin Design Award.

Yes. However it is recommended that the pictures uploaded represent the complete appearance and functionalities of the submitted entry.

If the intended entry is about the overall visual identity of a series of products, then the collection should be submitted as a single entry. If the intended entry is about emphasizing the unique appearances and functionalities of each individual piece in a collection, then we recommend submitting each separately; however, please note that the registration fee shall be paid for each entry registered.

You may provide the overall dimensions of the collection when placed together for, in example, an exhibition.

    1. Complete the online registration by creating an account with a password, then verify the account (by clicking on the link in the verification email.)
    2. Read and select “Agree” to the agreement and personal data use policy.
    3. Submission Step1: Create a basic profile for your organization.
    4. Submission Step 2: Fill out the entry details of your products, and save.
    5. Submission Step 3: Complete payment: Registration fee payment must be completed by June 26, 2024, 17:00 (Taipei Time or GMT+8). For payments completed with remittance, the registration procedure can be completed by uploading the remittance slip to the online registration system.
    6. The registration deadline for the 2024 Golden Pin Design Award is June 26, 2024, 17:00 (Taipei Time or GMT+8). Entrants can make changes to the submitted entries before the deadline. However, entrants who completed the registration fee payment for the Early Entry promotion, before June 7, will not be able to make changes to their entry details after submission.

The registration fee may be paid with credit cards (VISA, Master Card, or JCB card), WeChat Pay, or remittance (in TWD). The entrants are responsible for covering the remittance fees and any additional charges; i.e., the full registration fee amount to be paid shall be 100% T/T (telegraphic transfer).

The registration fee is NT$5,000 per entry (or NT$3,500 per entry for early bird registrations.)

An electronic invoice will be issued based on the vendor information provided during registration and sent via email.

Physical entries need not be submitted for the Preliminary Selection. For entries that advance to the secondary and/or final selection, the entrants will be notified to deliver the physical entries to the specified venue.

For large entries that are difficult or impossible to deliver to the selection venues, please upload a short entry introduction video (180 seconds or less) when filling out the registration information. Before the secondary or final selection date, please notify the Golden Pin Design Award team of the reason for not submitting a physical entry. Only entries that receive approval from the Golden Pin Design Award may be evaluated based on an entry introduction video in the secondary and final selections.

After the secondary selection is completed, the Golden Pin Design Team will announce the time and location for the entries’ pickup. Entrants are required to pick up their entries within the designated time frame and shall bear the transportation costs and other necessary fees.

After the final selection is completed, the Golden Pin Design Team will hold all entries until the Golden Pin Design Award Exhibition is concluded, after which the entrants will be notified to pick up their entries. The entrants shall bear the transportation costs and other necessary fees.

Yes. The ceremony is set to be held in December 2024 in Taipei, Taiwan, where the Design of the Year Award will be announced.

Winning entries of the Golden Pin Design Award are granted the right to use the Design Mark and have the opportunity to be promoted or marketed worldwide through the Golden Pin Design Award’s touring exhibitions and online platform.

Winning entrants will receive one award certificate or trophy for each winning entry. If there are multiple designers of the same entry and require multiple certificates or trophies, entrants may apply to receive additional ones at an additional charge by contacting the Golden Pin Design Award at gpaward@tdri.org.tw.

The award certificate shows the names of the entry (in both Chinese and English), the entrant organization, vendor/owner, the design firm, and the name(s) of the designer(s). The trophy shows the names of the entry (in English), the entrant organization, vendor/owner, and the design firm. The information displayed on award certificates or trophies is taken directly from the information provided in the registration system and may not be changed after registration is closed. Replacements with updated information may be applied for at an additional charge.
